Methyl Alcohol,other name Methanol, also known as hydroxymethane, is an organic compound that is toxic. It is the simplest saturated monohydric alcohol. Its chemical formula is CH3OH/CH4O, of which CH3OH is a simplified structural formula, which can highlight the hydroxyl group of methanol. The CAS number is 67-56-1, the molecular weight is 32.04, and the boiling point is 64.7 °C. Because it was first discovered in dry distillation wood, it is also called "wood alcohol" or "wood essence". The lowest dose of human oral poisoning is about 100mg/kg body weight, and oral intake of 0.3 to 1g/kg can cause death. It is used in the manufacture of formaldehyde and pesticides, and as an extractant for organic matter and a denaturant for alcohol. Finished products are usually made by reacting carbon monoxide with hydrogen.
